English Expertise Programme

Our A-level English Literature programme offers a unique and enriching experience designed to cultivate a passion for literature while driving academic success. Students receive exceptional support and opportunities that go beyond standard classroom learning, helping them excel in both their studies and broader literary exploration.

Cultural Enrichment
To deepen students' engagement with texts, we offer a theatre trip, bringing literature to life through live performance and helping build a stronger cultural understanding. This experience enhances their critical appreciation and broadens their perspectives on the works they study.

Comprehensive Resources
We provide every student with a set of essential books, including those required for study as well as additional wider reading to expand their knowledge. Students are also given access to a paid subscription to online academic journals, offering them valuable resources for deeper literary research and critical analysis.

Expert-Led Learning
Our small group teaching structure allows for more personalized instruction, with subject specialists leading small tutorials to ensure each student receives tailored guidance. We also offer masterclasses led by experts from within our federation, where students can dive deeper into literary themes and analysis beyond the classroom. Additionally, students participate in regular English Literature conferences, designed to expose them to advanced ideas and critical debates within the subject.

Targeted Tutorials
To ensure that every student reaches their potential, we provide additional interventions, such as extra tutorials and support sessions focused on coursework and exam preparation. We explicitly teach key texts for coursework, encouraging wider reading and engagement with literary critics to foster a true love of English. Our holistic approach consistently delivers exceptional results, with English Literature being one of our highest-performing A-level subjects, achieving a positive progress score year after year.

By offering a well-rounded, resource-rich learning environment, our English Literature programme equips students not only for academic success but also for a lifelong appreciation of literature. To qualify for this programme, students must achieve a Grade 7 or above in GCSE English Language and Literature and express their interest clearly in their Sixth Form application.
