Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
At Harris Academy St John's Wood, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) offers our Sixth Form students a unique and exciting opportunity to pursue in-depth research on a topic of their choice. This prestigious qualification not only enhances academic achievement but also fosters independent learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills that are highly regarded by universities and employers alike.
The EPQ provides students with:
- The chance to explore a subject they are passionate about
- Valuable research, analytical, and project management experience
- Additional UCAS points (up to 28) to strengthen university applications
- The freedom to produce a dissertation, investigation, artefact, or performance on a chosen topic
Our EPQ program is led by Dr. Russell Child, an exceptionally qualified and experienced academic, who provides expert guidance to students throughout their EPQ journey. Dr. Child’s passion for education and his wealth of knowledge ensure that students receive the very best support, from formulating their initial ideas to completing their final projects. Under his expert mentorship and the guidance from our dedicated staff, students develop the skills and confidence needed to excel in both their EPQ and future academic endeavors.
The 2023/24 academic year has been a remarkable one for our EPQ students, with students achieving the top grades. These successes reflect the hard work, dedication, and high-level support provided by Dr. Child and our staff team. The projects completed by our pupils range from a variety of interests and topics. One standout project this year explored the difference in attitudes toward cosmetic dentistry in the UK and US. These well-researched projects highlight the academic excellence that is fostered within our EPQ program.
Beyond academic achievement, the EPQ encourages students to develop essential life skills, including independent research, time management, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. These skills not only prepare students for success at university but also help them stand out in the competitive landscape of higher education.
At Harris Academy St John’s Wood, we are proud of our students' achievements and continue to support them in pushing the boundaries of their academic potential through the EPQ. With our encouragement, our students are well-prepared to take on the challenges of higher education and the professional world.
